@ CFY…2 cents..that was more like 200 cents..just kidding..
1.Proverb: not to cut nails during nite ..also has a associated proverb..I can’t seem to re-collect it now..but is it was due to 2 main reasons (i) nails will be soft after shower (ii) folks didn’t have power in early days..so nails might get mixed up in food or will lie around the house …I don’t think datz applicable anymore & wat if the person showers in the evening.
Generations ago men had a upper hand (and even now try to )and if they devise a proverb and authorize it…should we still try to live by it..I’m not saying IGNORE it..I’m just saying re-think it..and ur explanations abt hunger..food..is applicable to women too..Isn’t it?so why isn’t there a proverb that says..”To win a gal’s heart is to through her stomach”????? c’mon ..cut me some slack here.
2. Practice makes a man perfect..did I say that the new age mom have enough practice like conventional moms??? If u read something thinking that the u already know what the writer is trying to convey, you’ll never see where they are comin from…kewl? DId he ask abt how many can drive a car and take kids out to the beach?? u know the number of hands that would have been raised for this one, right? so can we say that conventional moms r not good as they can’t take their kids out by themselves…thatz not a pt that I’m trying to convey….itz just that..they have all the time in the world to learn and practive cooking vs new age moms..datz all….
3:abt the guy on the spot:yah..she shouldn’t have been angry..but for all u know they are telling this to her a 100th time and now on television..might have potentially pissed her off….we don’t know that part of the story..so would like to take the 5th..on that
4.abt the cook…it was a lite comment from my side to see how the show got oriented due to back & forth conversations…and if it was me instead of Gopi..I would have asked abt the cooking & wouldn’t have asked abt the dish list and recipes…coz u see its one of the points not the ONLY point.
and yah if a guy likes his mom’s food better than his wife’s ..so what..in d future..her son is also gonna feel the same way abt it..I don’t think I really care abt that part.
I hope atleast this time, u r actually reading wat I have said & not just reading it
@ CBE_ammini….Both in the east and western part of the world… you can hear…
‘The way to a man’s heart is through his
stomach’
or
‘The shortest road to men’s hearts is down their throats’
These are proverbs. Proverbs are a simple and concrete saying popularly known and repeated, which expresses a truth, based on common sense or the practical experience of humanity.
Proverbs dont change with time.
Not to give a lecture here.. but it is common sense that for a human body or animal to survive/live/grow, you need a source of energy. This source of energy is food.We all struggle and work and earn only cause we need to feed ourselves/family. Food plays a vital role in human lives. It definitely makes sense that the vital thing you thrive for needs to be enjoyable when you attain it. The thing that makes a food enjoyable is to make it tasty ( any food is tasty for a hungry man is altogether a different debatable topic.. let’s not mix it up here). Though a lot of men know cooking, given a choice men would not want to cook for themselves but they do enjoy tasty food. Therefore to win a guy’s heart is to through his stomach. Should make some sense by now.. I will stop here.
Secondly you have mentioned that Gopi put the guy on spot. You have contradicted in the following statement saying ‘if you have enough practice in any task, u r bound to be an expert’.
There is no question that his mom prepares food better than his wife. Practice makes it perfect and hands down any mom will cook better than his wife. Having said this… I dont think his wife should take it personal. I do not agree to her ‘anger’ expressions she portrayed on TV.
Marriage is not seekign for a cook but when the person you married cooks affectionately for you a dish as tastefully he likes it to be, that’s when you reach his heart. There is no harm in taking tips from MIL’s to prepare dishes the way your spouse likes it. Basic thing is that your husband has tasted only his mom’s food all his life ( till marriage) and there is no wonder he thinks, it is the best. Moderating your ways of cooking to give him that same taste will not cause a great harm is my humble 2 cents.
As Gopi stated towards the end of the show, this is not a comparison show but clearly reflects the changes in the society.
Recipes from modern age moms : some of them were ‘made up’ varieties which were never heard before….esp ‘honolulu kula’ - a total cocktail recipe which am sure wud taste horrible w/o alcohol. We add all the extraneous sweetners to an alcohol in order to neutralize its bitterness.. but then glucose + sweet lime+ sugar+ orange juice+ tender coconut water.. simply cannot imagine the amt of calories in that drink.. and definitely not healthy.
Overall I wud say people and lifestyle has changed to adopt to the changing times and people’s schedule. There is no way the new age mom’s can beat old age mom’s when it comes to traditional recipes on taste and there is no way the old age mom’s would experiment as much as the new age mom’s. It’s a balance the family strikes when they prefer to eat traditional vs. modern food, I would say.
Waitin fr the next week’s episode..
A new age working woman who still runs to her MIL or mom when it comes to traditional recipes or to eat some hearty food :-)…

Gopiiiiiii…ur 1 st statement…to get to man’s heart go thru his stomach..is a conventional thought..why did u inivite the modern mom’s, in the 1st place??
yah..I agree abt putting the guy on the spot..poor thing that gal felt very bad..but it happens.. RENU ithukaga divorce ellam panna mudiyathu..be practical gal..
my perspective twd’s this issue is..if u have enough practice in any task, u r bound to become an expert in it …and like buzz says itz really funny how this conversation revolved..they can rather marry some cook and lead a nice eating life.
Some women who spoke only English did not know Tamil and hence spoke in English and the others who spoke both in English and Tamil - I dont think this program states that the speaker should only speak in Tamil and no other language. If that was the case Mr.Gopinath should not be conducting this show as he himself speaks in English on and off.
